Custom software vs ServiceTitan

ServiceTitan is enterprise software for large field-service operations, and for a big multi-branch contractor it is a serious answer. Most shops searching for a ServiceTitan alternative are not that contractor — they are five to twenty-five people who priced it, blinked, and started looking for something their size.

This page is the honest version of that comparison: what you actually get for enterprise money, and when building your own is the cheaper and better call.

When enterprise software is the right answer

If that is you, stop reading — buy the enterprise product. Our own homepage says we are not built for multi-market operators or enterprise dispatch, and it means it.

When custom is the cheaper answer

Rent versus own, in one paragraph

Enterprise SaaS is rented capability: you pay every month, forever, and the day you stop paying you have nothing. A build is $1,500–$5,000 once, hosted in your own accounts, with the code in your hands. Every build carries a monthly — $49 on a website, $249 on a tool — which covers hosting and the Atlas running inside it, and it is far below what a per-seat platform costs a growing crew. Before you spend anything, put your own numbers into the calculator and see what the gaps cost you now. The four tools are $0, so finding out costs about a minute.

Where they beat us, honestly.

An enterprise platform brings implementation teams, training, certifications, an ecosystem of integrations and reporting depth that a single operator cannot match. If you need a vendor with all of that behind it, you need a vendor with all of that behind it. If that is you, buy theirs. A comparison page that says the other product is never the answer is a sales page pretending to be a comparison, and you would find out the expensive way.

Questions people actually ask

Is custom software really cheaper than enterprise SaaS?

For a shop our size, usually yes over a few years, because a build is a one-time cost and a subscription is not. Do the arithmetic with your own headcount rather than trusting either vendor's framing — including ours.

Will custom take longer to get running?

You get a private link the same week as the sit-down. Enterprise implementations are typically measured in weeks or months of onboarding. Ours is faster mostly because it is smaller, which is the honest reason.

What happens when I need a change?

Small changes go through Atlas — you ask, it edits, you confirm before anything publishes. Bigger changes are a conversation, not a support ticket that gets triaged behind a thousand other shops.

What if I outgrow it?

Then you outgrew it, and you get your data. The four tools export to CSV from inside the app; a custom build's data is exported on request. Nothing here is built to make leaving expensive, and if you want that written down it goes in the agreement.
